Strong Academics
- Small Classes
Gavilan Hills Academy in Gilroy has a strong academic
orientation. It is our belief that children learn
best when challenged. Accordingly, students are
grouped in classes (referred to as Forms) by ability
rather than chronological age. Class sizes are
limited so that each student's progress can be
closely monitored. Student's grouping sometimes
changes with each academic subject so students
can receive accelerated, average, or remedial
instruction. While it is not necessarily unusual
for some students to vary as much as two traditional
grade levels between their academic/age level,
they are regrouped for social and physical activities
during the school day. |

of, and appreciation for, traditional institutions and

(McDougal Littell, Spectrum Publishers as well as various
other workbooks) , Math (Saxon Publishers), Science,
Geography (U.S. and World), American Literature. While
electives vary from year to year they may include, but
are not limited to: Music (vocal and violin), Art, Foreign
Language, Basic Culinary Skills, Sewing, and Physical

Disciplined Orderly
Classrooms
It is our belief that teaching and learning can best
be accomplished in an orderly and consistent evnironmnet.
Disciplined classrooms are a hallmark of our school.
Students are taught to respect themselves and others
and that they are accountable for their own actions.
For each choice we make there is a consequence - favorable
or unfavorable. For each privilege we receive there
is a responsibility. Through a clearly defined and consistent
discipline system throughout the entire school, appropriate
behavior is reinforced. |
