A little history about Gavilan Hills Academy:
Gavilan Hills Academy opened its doors in Gilroy in September 1970. Founded by Carol Gilmore, the school opened as Heidi's Preschool in a small house on Eigleberry Street near Seventh. Named after her first grandchild, the school grew, as did Heidi, and name changes accompanied the growth. Nancy Hendrickson joined her mother at the helm of the school in 1975. Heidi's Learning Center was the next sign to adorn the expanded campus of three houses on Eigleberry and a house on the corner of Church and Seventh Streets. Heidi's name was later dropped and the school operated under the name of The Learning Center until the school was moved to the upper level of Gilroy Skate Arena on Monterey Road in 1984. Now known throughout the Gilroy area as Valley Preparatory School (you know - the school in the Skate Arena) the school was purchased by Marguerite Kennedy in 1990 and the name was changed to Gavilan Hills Academy. The school remained in The Skate Arena until the summer of 1995 when it moved to its present location of 2080 Pacheco Pass Hwy at the corner of Frazer Lake Road, Now housed in a large Victorian farm house, the same quality education continues as we look forward to celebrating our fortieth anniversary in the near future.
